BHS
Class of ’72 Holds 35th Reunion
It was a beautiful, warm, calm night in the rolling hills
of Hunterdon County at the home of our most gracious
hostess, Shelly Ricco, and more importantly, it was the
35th Reunion of the BHS Class of ’72.
About
30 classmates, spouses, and significant others gathered
for an intimate and rewarding get together on Saturday
night, October 6th. There were those who hadn’t seen
each other for 35 years and there were those who had
gotten together much more recently. There were those who
haven’t missed a single reunion and there were those who
were making their first ever reunion appearance.
Early on the talk was about what everyone is doing today
and what they have been doing in the years leading up to
the reunion. As the evening wore on the discussion (and
many, many laughs) shifted to the Glory Days...to our days
in the hallowed halls of Bernards High. Names of missing
classmates were brought up...”Does anybody know where...is?” “What ever happened to so and so?”
Remember when...?” Teachers and their classes were an
often heard topic...Mr. Mac, Jesse Taylor, Bernie Kopp, Mr Fenimore, Chuck Preston, Palazzi, Melitski, and
Willie Dunne as well as many others came into play.
Anecdotes from our high school days were
many...Homecoming, football, basketball, ski trips,
plays, musicals, field parties , and all of the people
from our class that made these events memorable...so
memorable that they are still being talked about all of
these years later.
Prior to dinner Steve Kurylo blessed the event, the
food, and the enduring camaraderie of the Class of ’72
with a prayer that was truly from the heart.
There was a copy of the 1972 edition of “The Bernardian”
on the table. One by one, each of us looked at our
yearbook and in our own way celebrated what was, and
thought about how special it is to once again see some
of the people that were a part of making those days as
wonderful as they were.
There was a plaque prominently displayed mentioning the
classmates that we have lost, about 10 of them in all,
and while it is true that they are no longer with us,
the memories of them are vivid and continue to live.
In what seemed like only a moment or two it was time to
shake hands, it was time to kiss and hug one more time,
and it was time to call it a night...it was time to say
goodbye to one and all until next we meet.
A special thank you to Shelly Ricco. Shelly opened her
house and her heart to her classmates and in addition to
that she created and served a 5 star meal……..it was the
best!!! Thanks also go out to Debbie and Ed
Johnson (Class of ’71). Ed was an ever attentive
bartender and Debbie was Shelly’s first mate. The Ricco
kids, Nick, Stephanie, and Julie were big helps as well.
Meet we will at the 40th Reunion of The BHS Class of
’72....it will be here before you know it. The Reunion
Committee, believe it or not, is going to meet in the near
future to start talking about it...why not?
See you back home soon...we’ll leave the light on for
you!
